People have been saying that the Royals could go down in history as the worst team ever in MLB history. I mean what happened? They won the title in 2015, and since then haven't made the playoffs. We've lost a lot of great players and are now very young. People have said that the Royals are horribly managed and have a young team that doesn't know how to play in the MLB. Well here's why I think the Royals could be competing for a championship even NEXT YEAR.
1. The Royals have a lot of young talent. Aldaberto Mondesi is a beast and has been hitting triples like every other game. Huntier Dozier is one of the leagues leaders in hitting. Billy Hamilton is very speedy. Whit Merrifield has gotten significantly better every single year and broke George Brett's streak for most consecutive game for a hit. These young guys will continue to get better every year and will make this team great again.
2. Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez. Yes, the old guys. Alex Gordon is looking like his old self again playing very well. He's a great person for the young guys to look up to. Salvy will be back at some point soon and that'll give them some more veteran leadership. Also, Perez has proved time and time again that he's one of the leagues best catchers and he'll be motivated to bring that back.
With these things, I truly do believe that it won't be long until the Royals will be good competitors in the league again. This will be a trial and error year and next year will be the winning year. I know the pitching is horrible and I'm hoping we fix that during this off-season. I am calling it now, The Royals will win a championship in the next 5-10 years.
We heard a lot of this “terrible” discussion before 2015. Let’s keep an eye on the farmhands!
