It’s official. All star weekend is here and the home run derby will kick it off tonight. So I am here to go over the first half of the season and predict what I think will happen. It’s been a wild one and I can’t wait to go over it all.
The Yankees are the best team in the American League. This side is harder to determine because of how good the Astros and the Twins are. The Astros have dealt with some injuries but continue to be great. However, the Yankees went a majority of the first half of the season without Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge. So even without those players, they’ve still been able to maintain the best record in the American league. If they stay healthy for the playoffs, I believe that they are too good and will come out of the American league and in my opinion, win the whole thing.
The Dodgers of course are great again which is not a big surprise. They have a firm hold on the National League and will continue throughout the rest of the year. They have the National league runner up MVP in Cody Bellinger and great pitching. Come playoff time, I think the only team standing in their way is the Brewers. I said runner up MVP because I think Christian Yelich. He has just been so unbelievably good and I think will win the MVP.
The surprising team this year has definitely been the Minnesota Twins. They play in a good division competing against Cleveland and have just come out of the blue this year. I don’t think they will go far in the playoffs though. They are young and inexperienced but that also helps them. They will continue to get better and even though I don’t think they’ll make a run this year, I could see them making one next year. Also the Braves have been a lot better and it’s the same for them. A young team that will continue to grow.
Either Nolan Arenado or Christian Yelich will win MVP for the National League this year. They both have been great and I think it will come down to which team goes farther in the playoffs. I think Micheal Brantley or Alex Bregman will win MVP for the American League. I’d like to think it’s anyone except Bregman because I’m not a fan of him, but he is a great player and it will be a tough battle for the MVP.
Bryce Harper has been the biggest disappointment in my opinion. We were having MVP talks with him and he has let us down. I’d like to think he picks it up and helps the Phillies get to the playoffs. If he can pick it up and be the MVP we know him to be, the Phillies could make a run and be a title contender.
Also where did the Red Sox go?! Last year they win the title, and didn’t really lose a lot of key players. If ANY. With how they’re playing right now, they will definitely not make the playoffs. They remind me of the Royals in 2015. Winning the title and then next year, with the same guys, not doing a single thing. I wanted to add that the games in London were insane and I loved watching them.
So that’s what I got. I predict the Yankees vs the Dodgers in the World series for my mid season pick. It probably will change by the end of the year though. Now time to sit back, relax, and watch the home run derby.
