It's been an interesting first half of the college football season. Today I will be talking about the huge headlines going on through this first half, who my top ten are, who I think will win the Heisman, and who I think will now be in the college football playoff. Let's jump into it.
First, I'm going to start with who my top ten is and why I think that they are where they are.
1. LSU (6-0). Joe Burrow and this offense is red hot. They have torched up every single team they have played and no one has been able to stop them. The reason I have them at number 1 is because they've actually played tough game. They played 9th ranked Texas away from home, and a stifling defense in 7th ranked Florida. The best team Alabama played is a mediocre Texas A&M.
2. Oklahoma (6-0). Jalen Hurts is another Heisman favorite. The Heisman could be any number of people right now so I'm not even going to get into it. I had questions about this team, but they showed they were legit against Texas and they have a real shot at the championship.
3. Alabama (6-0). I can't demote Alabama that much because even though they haven't really played anyone, they're still pretty much the same team they were a year ago. Tua is a Heisman favorite but the defense does look flawed a little bit. I need to see a little more of them against better teams before they get the number one spot.
4. Ohio State (6-0). I did not think this team would be as good as they are. Justin Fields is playing tremendous in his first year, which I did not expect, and their defense is very good. They haven't really played anyone too good, but I don't know who is going to be able to compete with this team other than Wisconsin in the Big Ten.
5. Clemson (6-0). Oh my goodness I have the defending national champions with their Heisman hopeful quarterback at number 5. Well, here's the deal. Trevor Lawrence isn't as good as people say he is. I don't think this team will be in the college football playoff, especially after almost losing to unranked North Carolina.
6. Wisconsin (6-0). This team is so insanely good. Their defense paired with the amazing running of Jonathan Taylor makes this team almost unbeatable. I am almost positive that it will be Ohio State vs Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship and whoever wins that game will probably make it to the college football playoff.
7. Penn State (6-0). I think this is a team that can really compete. They have a good defense and what can be a dangerous offense. I just don't think they're at the level to compete with Wisconsin and Ohio State in the Big Ten, and that will be the thing that kills them.
8. Florida (6-1). I know a lot of people are writing Florida off. However, they beat Auburn and went toe to toe with my number 1 team in LSU. They did all of this without their quarterback. I think this is a really good team, but they won't be able to escape the shadow of LSU and Alabama this year.
9. Georgia (5-1). Georgia just got upset by an unranked team. That has been the biggest shocker of the college football season so far. It was a heart breaking loss for Georgia and it really shook up my and a lot of other peoples predictions on who is going to make it and win it all. Yes, I think this will kill their chances of getting to the playoffs this year. Having said that, I still think this is a very solid team who can compete with anyone in the country.
10. Notre Dame (5-1). I have them this low just because of the conference they play in. They have a very solid offense though and almost beat Georgia this year. That game showed that they are at least a top ten team, unfortunately they won't be in the post season this year.
So those are my top ten teams of this year so far. Now it's time for me to pick who I think will win the Heisman (so far). It's a very good competition with Joe Burrow, Tua Tugavola, Justin Fields, Jalen Hurts, and Jonathan Taylor. I have to go with Joe Burrow just because he showed he can still put up big numbers against maybe the best defense in college football. I think he will continue to get better this year, and he might win the Heisman. It is very competitive this year.
So now, the 4 teams I think will be in the playoff. Yes, it has changed since the first post I did on college football this year. I'll do it in the seed order I think it will be.
1. LSU
2. Ohio State
3. Oklahoma
4. Alabama
I'm not going to go into any further detail on why I picked these ones for now. If you wanna argue about it though feel free to send me a message and we can hash it out. Let's see what this crazy second half of college football will bring us.
