That's right, the best season of the whole year is here. The teams in the CFP have been selected, and all the bowls are now here. Today I'm going to go through the CFP, and bowls, and say who I think will win, and where I think they got certain things wrong. Let's get it.
I'm only going to go through the big New Year's Six games and good ranked bowls because I don't think you want to sit here and have me talk about the Foster Farmer's Bowl or some crap like that. Starting with the Cotton Bowl. 10 Penn State vs 17 Memphis. I honestly think Penn State is going to blow out Memphis. Memphis is riding high though after they beat Cincinnati in the AAC championship. I just don't think they have the physicality to compete with a Big Ten teams like this. I'm going to take Penn State 27-14.
The Orange Bowl features 9 Florida and 24 Virginia. I honestly don't agree with the choice for this game. Virginia is no where near as good as Florida, and it will probably be a blowout. I would've rather seen a team like Iowa just because I think they match each other pretty well on the line. Nonetheless though, I see this being a pretty low scoring game. I'm going to take Florida in a defensive game 24-13.
I can't wait for the Rose Bowl this year. 6 Oregon and 8 Wisconsin should be a pretty good game. Oregon just shocked the world and destroyed Utah while Wisconsin put up a good fight in the first half against Ohio State. Oregon has a really good offense while Wisconsin has one of the best defenses in the country. It will be a really good match up, but I think Wisconsin is too good at the line of scrimmage and will win in a close game. I am going to take Wisconsin 31-28.
Another good game will be the Sugar Bowl between 5 Georgia and 7 Baylor. Georgia got absolutely destroyed by LSU and is hungry to get a good win. On the other end, Baylor played a heck of a game against Oklahoma without their starting quarterback. I think this will be a high scoring game, but I think Georgia will be motivated and Jake Fromm looking to win a big bowl. Georgia 35-32. This is the last New Year Day game other than the playoffs, and I'll get into those predictions at the end. Now I'm going to just go through some other good match ups.
The Holiday Bowl features 22 USC and 16 Iowa. I honestly have not followed USC a lot this season, but I know how good Iowa's defense. With the new quarterback USC has, I just don't see them being able to compete with Iowa. I got Iowa 30-17.
18 Minnesota and 12 Auburn is a great match up for this year's Outback Bowl. Minnesota has been inconsistent this year, beating Penn State but losing to Iowa and Wisconsin. Auburn however has played each team really close, losing close to LSU and Georgia, and even beating Alabama. I see this being a close game, but ultimately Auburn will pull away at the end. Auburn should win 28-17.
The last one before I go into the playoffs is the Citrus Bowl between 14 Michigan and 13 Alabama. My mind says Alabama, but I'm going to go with the upset. Alabama is without Tua, and Harbaugh desperately needs a big win in a bowl like this for Michigan. I got Michigan in a close one 28-24.
Now it's time. Predictions for the CFP. First up 2 Ohio State and 3 Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. Look, Clemson are the champions. They've done nothing but win the past few years. But my goodness this Ohio State team is good. Justin Fields has showed that even as a first year starter, he doesn't buckle under the pressure of any big moment. This will be a close, good game, but ultimately the Buckeyes are just too good and I think they will beat Clemson 30-25. I have been on the LSU bandwagon all year. They've beaten everybody, Alabama Florida Auburn, and absolutely destroyed Georgia in the SEC championship. Joe Burrow is so extremely good, and the defense just continues to improve. I think the Peach Bowl between 4 Oklahoma and 1 LSU will be good in the first half, but LSU will pull away in the second half. Joe Burrow is too good and this team is too good. LSU will win 41-28. So since I've predicted those games, I'm going to predict who I think will win the championship. LSU and Ohio State will be a shootout for the ages. I am going to pick LSU to win it all though. They know how to win in big games, and have done it every time they've been in one. Ohio State looked lost in the first half against Wisconsin, but LSU dismantled Georgia. Ohio State is the more complete team, but I have to pick LSU in a shootout 48-45. Plus, Joe Burrow would be playing with a chip on his shoulder, playing against his former team that wouldn't start him. These are my predictions for the big bowl games this year. Hope you enjoyed reading, and reply to this if you disagree with anything or have your opinion!
